I just went through the Makefile in qemu and it doesn't seem to be any easy way to build just quem-img. This is because it has depency upon qemu libraries which depend on the libraries we don't want. I guess we will have to stick with the current version for now.

Right, we don't want to pull in all of these libraries, can you find a way to build qemu-img only, because this is the only thing we use from a qemu host-build?
