Really, guys? Please consider if the rename will help to build a great
embedded Linux distribution with a focus on stability and
functionality. In my humble opinion, it will add extra work for
nothing.

'Master' has many meanings, as can be seen from the Merriam-Webster
dictionary: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/master. While
'a person who holds another person in slavery' is one of them, there
are dozens of others. Until someone starts to create 'slave branches,'
the link between master-slave is more in the head of those who read it
than it really exists.

Are we going to prohibit anything related to slavery? Should we tell
the world to stop using 'ciao' (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ciao)?
It sounds much more like those superstitious taboos that prohibit
words like AIDS, cancer, devil, or bad luck. Historic slavery must be
remembered and not forgotten. Stopping the use of words that might
remind us of slavery will not make the world a better place, and it
could even have the opposite effect.

Please, let's rule the project based on facts and science, not
beliefs. If you guys think that renaming this branch will change the
chances of someone being enslaved, go ahead. But I think that it will
only make us 'feel better' with no real effect on slavery. It is just
selfish. If we really want to fight slavery, we should pay attention
to what we buy. Modern slavery is something happening today, and I
believe everybody here consumes goods that were produced by exploiting
slaves. Ask Google to search for 'master' on
https://www.antislavery.org. Those who are truly fighting slavery
don't seem to give a damn about the word 'master.' Check their FAQ and
see how they are fighting.

Those are my two cents (as I have no vote here).

Luiz
