Hi,
The Alcatel HH41V is a rebadged HH40V from the same vendor. Same PCB,
same QCA9531 SoC, same Winbond flash and partition layout, same AR9531
2.4 GHz radio and AR8229 switch. The only difference is the model
number printed on the label, so both names should resolve to the same
firmware image.
This follows the convention already used for same-vendor second model
names, e.g. buffalo_wzr-450hp2 / WZR-450HP2D and ruckus_zf7363:
- compatible keeps only the primary board string, so dtb-based
board_name detection is unaffected
- model combines both names
- the alternative name is declared in the image definition via
DEVICE_ALT0_*, which surfaces it in the firmware selector as
"Alcatel HH41V" pointing at the same image
It is a 3-line diff. No partition, package, or IMAGE_SIZE changes are
needed.
Verified by booting the stock ath79/generic HH40V sysupgrade image on
an HH41V:
MIPS: machine is Alcatel HH40V
SoC: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9533 ver 2 rev 0
Memory: 118964K/131072K available
switch0: Atheros AR8229 rev. 1 switch registered on mdio.0
ag71xx-legacy 19000000.eth: PHY at mdio.0:1f:04, QCA9561 built-in
ag71xx-legacy 1a000000.eth: PHY at fixed-0:00, Generic PHY
ieee80211 phy0: Atheros AR9531 Rev:2 mem=0x8268afa1, irq=11
eth1: link up (1000Mbps/Full duplex)
br-lan: port 1(eth1) entered forwarding state
br-lan: port 2(phy0-ap0) entered forwarding state
rndis_host 1-1:1.0 usb0: register 'rndis_host' at usb-1b000000.usb-1
option 1-1:1.2: GSM modem (1-port) -> ttyUSB0
option 1-1:1.3: GSM modem (1-port) -> ttyUSB1
option 1-1:1.4: GSM modem (1-port) -> ttyUSB2
LAN switch, WAN PHY, 2.4 GHz radio with a valid EEPROM calibration
read, and the LTE modem all come up correctly.
The flash layout on the HH41V matches the existing DTS fixed-partitions
table exactly, which is why IMAGE_SIZE is unchanged:
partition dmesg offset/size DTS reg
u-boot 0x00000000/0x00040000 <0x000000 0x040000>
u-boot-env 0x00040000/0x00010000 <0x040000 0x010000>
oem 0x00050000/0x00100000 <0x050000 0x100000>
firmware 0x00150000/0x00ea0000 <0x150000 0x0ea0000>
art 0x00ff0000/0x00010000 <0xff0000 0x010000>
The firmware partition is 0xea0000 bytes = 15335424 bytes = 14976k,
which is exactly the existing IMAGE_SIZE := 14976k. Total flash is
16 MiB, RAM 128 MiB.
One note so it does not come up later: the AR9531 EEPROM on this unit
reports a country code of 0x5a (DZ) rather than the US default. That
is the per-unit EEPROM value, not a hardware difference, and
calibration data is read correctly at mem=0x8268afa1, so the normal
ath9k regdomain handling applies.
The patch is attached as 0001-ath79-add-HH41V-to-Alcatel-HH40V-device-
definition.patch. The diff for reference:

It is also up as a PR if that is easier to comment on:
