As long as git and source package archives (and their mirrors/proxies) 
still work for one to build older releases (this is an extremely common 
need AFAIK), I see no need to mirror the official compiled binaries 
everywhere.

An archive host would be enough for the precompiled/signed binaries 
IMHO.   But that's my personal opinion.

It depends on how much load it would cause for archive.openwrt.org, I 
suppose.

It *is* a good thing to provide rsync access, if the machine can handle 
that (and nobody is abusing it).   Also, it would be nice if a mirror 
could drop in an extra config file or script to *also* mirror *selected* 
older releases from archive.openwrt.org *if it wants to*.
