Financial / Infrastructure support of the openWRT project

My Name is Jan and I am the Product Owner of the team which takes care of sites-connectivity at DigitecGalaxus. To interconnect our sites, we are heavily leveraging openWRT and are very happy so far. Therefore we would like to support/contribute to the openWRT project. We would like to discover how this is done best; we can either provide some one-time or re-occuring donation or provide access to some hardware (probably Hetzner server(s)), where we would take part of covering the costs. 

So is there currently a need for new/more hardware or are donations a more flexible/efficient way to cover your overall costs?
