[OpenWrt-Users] not all packages are listed in the database?

I'm kind of working around to doing some upgrades of my openwrt kamikaze
system to the trunk version. I'm taking stock of what I already have on
my router and am noticing that there are files from packages which are
not listed in the ipkg database. For example, I know I have uci
installed. (Of course) It has to be installed. I have an /sbin/uci.
However observe:
# ipkg list uci
Done.
Now certainly I understand that uci gets installed with the base "trx"
file that I installed on this router. But that it's not accounted for
in the package database is a bit surprising (and disturbing).
I wonder how many other packages are in this state.
Thots?
