If it is very old it may well not have sufficient resources to run 
Linux.  It needs a minimum of 4MB Flash and 8MB RAM to run something
like OpenWrt.  You can fit OpenWrt on 2MB Flash, but it is a real 
shoe-horn job.

If you open up the box, identify any large chips and look them up on the web.
That will give you an idea as to the Flash and RAM that is available.

You would need to search the web and look to see if this CPU is 
on the supported list for Linux.  I am not even sure what family
of processor this is.  On the Freescale site it is described as 
a communications controller, but little more (I do not have a 
subscription to any of the datasheet sites).
