 Interestingly, the b43 driver's page on wireless.kernel.org states (in the
 context of explaining the difference between b43 and b43legacy):

  Broadcom did not release any version 4 firmware files for some older
 boards, possibly due to memory constraints on the cards themselves.

 I guess this is exactly what's missing in the broadcom-wl binary stuff
 since r10137.
