I've been lurking in this discussion, but thought I would throw in this perspective:

Who is asking for this? Could we ask them to quantify the benefit (to them) of a six-year LTS?

Would they be willing to fund the effort required? (Some companies decide that Red Hat or Ubuntu are critical to their business, and hire people/assign developers to work to support those distributions...)
