Ok, at least some progress.

That's expected and standard OpenWrt behavior.

Please can you provide also output of `swconfig dev switch0 show` from the
same ath79 broken image?

Can you please provide the same outputs (dmesg lines, swconfig) from firmware
which is working for you? It's firmware image from 18.06 release, am I correct?

Can you please try to run latest image[1] from development snapshot and check
if that works for you?
