FYI: ldir's 'exp' branch had something about broken ext4 images in it. When asked he said
it might come from stintel's bump. I have tested the combined-squashfs-ext4 image on x86/64
and this works without any issues. Haven't gotten a hold of stintel yet to comment on this
(this feels like a piece for the Guardian almost ;-) ).
