I _suspect_ that new firmware is detecting line parameters
automatically. If this is true then keeping such "magic" values in
configuration might actually decrease compatibility for some users (if
driver is somehow using them anyway). This needs testing.

This isn't crucial. I was just wondering if /etc/network/config is the
most logical place for it.

That's why I think we should stick to TP-LINK firmware as default.
it's not customized for any ISP in particular.
As for tunning: For now it does not seem that we can adjust any
parameters that would noticeably improve performance on one ISP while
breaking support for another. (SNR margin adjustment comes to mind,
but it's ISP-agnostic). Presence of some features improve xDSL
performance but it all happens in firmware anyway, which we get as
binary blob and can do nothing with it. Everything that can be done is
probably there by default or is enforced by DSLAM.
