To make sure I understand:  Changing only the driver fixes the problem.  Changing the firmware has no great affect either way?  If so, for the problem case where you are using the -ct firmware, please enable DBGLOG logging and paste the full dmesg that includes the client association steps.  http://www.candelatech.com/ath10k-bugs.php
