I will sort of echo to David's email here, a name is a name, and maybe
it does not matter that much, or actually maybe it does deeply matter
for some people.

We all have a different relationship to the OpenWrt project, but one
thing is clear, it has been successful in bringing freedom to users and
a superior and state of the art networking experience and it is known
for that, under that name.

More than a name, the real question is where: where do we want to be in
the embedded Linux space in the next years, do we want to leverage what
OpenWrt as a brand/name/project has done, or do we think we will be
equally successful in communicating the same, and better ideas using
LEDE (or another name)? I don't have an answer to that, but I think it's
easier to capitalize on the OpenWrt name and improve from there.
